Conductor Alondra de la Parra is the founder and artistic director of the New York-based Philharmonic Orchestra of the Americas. In 2004 at the age of 23, she created what would be the start of this organization, which is dedicated to supporting and promoting young artists from Latin America. She has gained widespread acclaim for her vibrant performances with the POA and the various other orchestras with which she has performed, including those in the U.S., Mexico, Argentina, Uruguay, and Venezuela where she was awarded the "Banda de Honor," the highest honor given to a musician. One of the most compelling conductors of her generation, she holds the distinction of being the first woman from Mexico to conduct in New York City.
